Stage and Sound at Roots Festival

Staging, sound and lighting for a free street carnival in Rotherham town centre, 28 March 2026.

The Setup

Roots: Rotherham Street Carnival is a free, one-day festival - live music, workshops, puppetry and a carnival procession that sets off from Rotherham Minster at 3pm and works its way through the town centre. It formed part of the Children's Capital of Culture programme in Rotherham.

We supplied the staging, sound and lighting for the main performance area. That meant a covered modular stage with a truss roof, built on the hard standing of the town square, with a ground-stacked PA system sized to carry live sets across the crowd and lighting rigged from the truss.

What We Supplied

  • Covered modular stage - a modular deck stage with truss roof and stage skirt, built on the town-centre hard standing
  • Ground-stacked PA - stacks sized for the square, with monitoring for the live performances through the day
  • Stage lighting - wash lighting rigged from the stage truss for the performers through the day
  • Crewed delivery - delivered, built and taken down by our own crew from the warehouse in Rotherham

A Town-Centre Festival Site

Town-centre festivals bring their own set of constraints, and this one was no different: the stage went onto paving rather than grass, the PA had to carry across an open square, and the parade route through the Minster end of town had to keep running while the stage programme continued at the other end.

The work sits alongside the production we delivered a week earlier for The Birthday Party, the Children's Capital of Culture finale, across several sites in the same part of town.
